Headteacher's Update
WOW! What an amazing week we have had at school. We held our annual WOW event which included every student in year 7 heading to Mersea for adventurous days of team building and physical challenges, with board games and disco dancing filling the evenings! Year 11 visited local colleges and sixth form centres and then attended a Learning About Work Day where employers interviewed them for advertised vacancies, analysing CVs and offering feedback to students. In school our cross year team challenge took the theme of “House building”, designing a future house system for the school. Ideas voted into the final included: precious gems, the tree of knowledge, inspirational people, sports teams and one based upon the qualities of Mr Jack. We thank the local schools who came in to share their house systems with us.
The WOW event is designed to augment and enrich our subject curricula and to develop our core characteristics of displaying conscientiousness, challenging ourselves, being compassionate and developing confidence and we saw this from every student in school last week. Students are exhibiting these skills in extra curricular clubs, in successful sports fixtures and in their subject lessons. Our first sets of reports for each year group are some of the best we have seen, with hundreds of headteacher awards being issued and many more for high levels of attendance and exemplary behaviour.
What a great start to the academic year our students have made – keep watching out for all of our updates on Facebook, Twitter and in the newsletter to find out all of the other exciting events happening at the school.
